Dr. Manohar Joshi fondly remembered by all his students as “MJ” was born in Ratnagiri in a family of social reformers. His parents Late Shri J.V. alias Baburao & Malatibai Joshi were the first to start a school for girls in the entire Konkan in 1925.

After his formal training at Seth G. S. Medical College, Mumbai, he went to Royal College of Surgeons of England for FRCS. On his return he joined B.J. Medical College & Sassoon General Hospitals as Hon. Professor & Postgraduate teacher.

He served as the ‘Dean of Medical Faculty’ of Medicine, University Of Pune & Member, Executive committee of Medical Council Of India. He had been the ‘President’ of Association of Surgeons of India, Indian Society of Gastroenterology, International College of Surgeons (Indian Section), Indian Society of HPB Surgery & World Congress of Digestive Surgery (CICD), New Delhi. He has received many prestigious awards from many institutions around the world. His Research work was published in the form of a book titled, “Surgical Diseases in the Tropics”.

He started a 15 bedded hospital at the same place on Ghole Road, Pune in 1968. It was a well known hospital for the expertise in Gastro-Intestinal Surgery.
